Columbia River Fishing

The world-famous Columbia River draws hundreds of thousands of fishing days of effort in pursuit of many different species.  Although Columbia River salmon fishing and Columbia River sturgeon fishing draw most of the attention, plentiful populations is steelhead, walleye and other warm water species draw plenty of attention too.

Wild Columbia River salmon once numbered over 15 million strong.  Although wild stocks have declined, mitigation hatcheries still produce tens of millions of juvenile salmon each year to quench the thirst of sport and commercial fishermen.

Columbia River sturgeon is a very popular second choice for Oregon and Washington anglers.  The wild white sturgeon is plentiful and provides excellent opportunities for high action with some fish reaching lengths to 10 feet!

With year-round opportunities for Columbia River salmon, sturgeon, steelhead, walleye and other species we have, the Columbia River fishing guide to match your quarry and personality.

The most highly anticipated fishery is the summer salmon season on the lower Columbia.  You know you're in a high action fishery when even your Columbia River fishing guide approaches that day with high expectations.  That tide rip washes through and you start to see the nets fly.  Your guide warns you to pay attention to your rod as strikes happen lightning fast and you must be prepared for what's about to take place.  Your rod trips off, and then another, and yet another! You just went from a friendly conversation to your guide forgetting your name because he has three salmon to boat and rods to re-bait.  This kind of action won't last long.  Now, your seasoned Columbia River fishing guide has to determine which species is on what rod.  He'll attempt to net the unpredictable, acrobatic coho salmon the first because of the stronger fighting characteristics of the larger chinook.  All this while watching out for other boat traffic.  This is an intense fishery.

As productive as this fishery is, it has a short peak season.  For this reason, we recommend booking your Columbia River fishing guide well in advance.  August 10th through September 10th is when the bulk of the run comes in and it's one summer vacation you won't want to miss!
