Portland/Metro Oregon Fishing Report – Spring Chinook anglers continue to ply the waters of the Willamette to find a few fish in the Portland Harbor, the lower Multnomah Channel and on occasion, at Oregon City. The Portland Harbor bite should become a bit more consistent in the coming weeks, but it’s blatantly obvious the run was grossly over-predicted.
Managers may consider modifying the Willamette fishery if passage at Willamette Falls continues to be bleak. We’ll keep you apprised.
Mainstem Columbia summer Chinook anglers are having to work for their catch, but persistence pays. It’s not as good as it was last year however. Peak weeks are upon us, we’ll see how it plays out.
Sockeye are available too, but tides this week aren’t look favorable for bank anglers, where most of the sockeye are caught.
Clackamas River Fishing Report – Catches of summer steelhead are keeping anglers interested, but spring Chinook catches are bleak, as they have been for many of the past several years. The Sandy is more deserving of your time if you’re in pursuit of spring Chinook.
Sandy River Fishing Report – Jeff Stoeger reports – Good morning, All. I hope that you haven’t given up fishing the Sandy yet. I fished the river last Thursday and we had a good day of fishing. The river was low and clear in the morning but it started to get that glacial green color to it as the day went on. The current report is the river is running clear for we had some rain for a few days with the freezing level dropping to about 4000 ft level which put some snow on the mountain and has since melted. The current river level is 8.38ft and the water temp is running around 58 degrees.
Those who are fishing the upper river have had some success with most of the action coming on all spinners and bobber and bait, either fresh shrimp or eggs. The hatchery has reported that they have had 24 clipped springers collected at Bull Run so far, and that they had 13 summer steelhead return to the hatchery as of June 12th.
Several lakes in the district are slated for stocking. Go HERE to see if your favorite is on the list this week.Find the full report and forecast for Members on this page here for the Clackamas and Sandy Rivers.
North Coast Fishing Report – Although we’re on the back-end of the Tillamook County spring Chinook run, it appears as if it was a good one, so more opportunity should lie ahead. It’s clear however, that the bulk of the run has headed upstream, with catches tapering in the bay both the upper and lower reaches as we transition from strong to a weaker tide exchange.
The Trask receives all the hatchery planted spring Chinook in the basin now, so one might surmise, as we heard of some great fishing about 10 days ago in the bay, that those fish have made their way into tidewater and in the main Trask itself. The river is really low so anglers that are targeting that mother lode, are doing so in a stealthy manner, and scoring some results, particularly in the morning.
The Nestucca certainly caught the eye of many as a slug of springers entertained tidewater anglers for several days last week. The bobber bite around Woods was off the charts according to reliable reports. It too seems to be having a good year for returning springers.
Summer steelhead season is in its peak, which isn’t saying much given how spotty the catches are. No one is all that surprised however, given how steelhead returns to the state have been depressed for a few years now.
The offshore coho bite is still fairly preliminary. South coast ports posted some catches shortly after the opener, the latest results are from the 18th of June. They show just 36 coho caught, Chinook season remains closed. Winchester Bay and Charleston posted the best catches, but that’s not uncommon for the early season.
Meanwhile, halibut fishing and bottomfishing are going well, we just need calm seas to keep up the opportunity.
Ocean crabbing is quite good, with crab in prime condition before the molt starts in, likely in early July.
Clam digging was good at the beginning of last week’s tide series, it’s a moot point right now.

Don’t overlook spring opportunities on the coast, the north coast stocking schedule can be found HERE and it looks as if there will be robust plants in the Newport and Tillamook districts in the coming two weeks.

Weather Outlook Across Central and Eastern Oregon:
Wow, last weekend and early week brought cool weather and some snow at the high lakes. Clear weather and we enter the weekend with temperatures in the 70s and 80s through much of Central Oregon.
The Deschutes Canyon will have temperatures in the 80s on Friday and through the weekend.
The Lower Deschutes continues with good fishing levels – at typical summertime levels. Flows are currently at 3700CFS at Madras. Flow is currently at 4,430 at Moody. Expect typical Deschutes water clarity.
Water temperatures near Madras remain in the range from 57 to 58 F, and rising today after the weekend cold front.
Levels are good, and there is good fishing through the Middle Deschutes system. Anglers are catching fish from Bend to Steelhead Falls.
Fishing is good on the upper Deschutes. Areas near Little Lava been on fire – Jeff Perin is suggesting steamer fishing in the area.
Lake Billy Chinook: Smallmouth bass fishing in the Crooked River Arm is picking up.
As reported last week, the Crooked River flows have dropped nicely, and this is now a viable fishing option with somewhat steady flows of 250ish CFS. Reports of very good fishing.

SW Oregon Fishing Report – Contributor Jeff Rome reports:
Father’s Day weekend provided much opportunity to fish with Dad with many options. Those that got out on the ocean before the winds picked up saw excellent ling cod and rock fish action. Some dads even got into a halibut or two! Hatchery coho season opened up on the 17th and while not great, anglers got into some of the scrappy silvers. Mostly, all the lakes and ponds are well stocked with trout and have been fishing good as well as the bass and panfish bite…… all should continue for this weekend.
The lower Rogue river is a wrap for springers, but attention on the Rogue bay is just starting for the Fall run and summer steelhead. It’s still a few weeks early, but if you get out before the wind picks up, you might get lucky.
As for the mid and upper Rogue, pretty much the same with some springer anglers still trying for a fish around Casey park with slow success. The mid section however, is starting to see a few summer steelhead move in.
Best best bet for the weekend would be the lakes, streams and ponds for trout and bass and the ocean Friday and/ or Saturday for excellent bottom fishing and coho. 🎣
Be safe, be nice and enjoy!
